As the recession forces many of us to change remember that you, I, each and all of us choose the lives we lead. We choose every day what our dreams will be and how we behave as we chase those dreams. Most of us have a mix of goals and behave in a decidedly mixed way as we go after them.
Well, this is a summons and a warning and a promise -- choose carefully what you're after in life, and pursue it nobly. Because your ends and your means will determine who you become, how you fare on life's ultimate score card: how much love you create.
That's why these difficult moments in history are moments of truth. They are tests. They are opportunities to right your ship, to stake a new course. Many of us are now forced to chart a new path. It may be very uncomfortable, but we're lucky to have the chance. Remember what an aging and tearful Private Ryan asks his wife after he visits the Normandy graves of the soldiers who saved his life, "Have I been a good man?!?"
Now is the time to reassess your habits, your career, your life and to remember that what we do each day and how we do it helps or hurts… not only others but our “selves”. Our goals and behavior determine who we are and how much we're loved. The amount of love that you generate is a good way to determine how well your self is faring and how well you're living. No less a tabulator than Warren Buffett says that, "The purpose of life is to be loved by as many people as possible among those you want to have love you." Your life goals may be big or they may be small. Make them good ones and pursue them in love and they will serve the world and your self well.
Cheers,
Donald
